PJA works to promote a criminal justice system that adheres to the best principles of Jewish tradition and American democracy – fundamental fairness, equality under the law, and the potential of every individual to change and to turn away from wrongdoing towards right.  Our work has two major components: an Anti-Death Penalty Campaign and a Jewish Community Justice Project (JCJP).

Announcing a new Anti-Death Penalty Resource

Interested in teaching your community about the importance of ending the death penalty?  Click here to download PJA's newest resource, an educational pamphlet full of traditional and modern Jewish texts on the subject.  Click here to continue your learning with myths & facts statements and an explanation of why PJA is against the death penalty.

These pamphlets were made possible by a grant from the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Fund.

Jewish Community Justice Project
PJA's Jewish Community Justice Project (JCJP) is the nation's first and only Jewish restorative justice project. Embodying PJA's commitment to the Jewish notion of tshuvah (repentance), JCJP focuses on reforming the criminal justice system by providing successful alternatives to incarceration for youth. With two tracks, Mediation and Advocacy, JCJP volunteers are given the opportunity to either mediate between first and second-time nonviolent juvenile offenders and their victims or to promote mediation and alternative sentencing to the larger law enforcement community.
Anti-Death Penalty Campaign
PJA believes that the death penalty is antithetical to progressive Jewish values and is one of the most critical human and civil rights issues facing California today. Through our Anti-Death Penalty Campaign, PJA actively opposes the death penalty and applauds the current de facto moratorium on executions, we advocate for its indefinite, de jure, extension.
